Reference Collection

Reference books, either in print or in electronic format, are a good place to begin your research.  Examples include encyclopedias, dictionaries, directories, biographies, bibliographies, handbooks etc. They provide an overview of a subject area or topic and are also a good starting point  when searching for essay topics. Articles may vary in length from several paragraphs to several pages and they may cite references to other works (bibliographies).  They are  often well illustrated and have useful maps, time charts, statistical data etc. It is best to use both the table of contents and the indexes to locate subjects.
