    Don't Forget Vital Statistics

Vital statistics, or, ... "core elements of live births, still births and deaths are the basis of some of the most meaningful health and demographic indicators, such as life expectancy, infant mortality, causes of deth, fertility rates and population change." from Vital Statistics Compendium, 1996, Statistics Canada, p. ix),

Census statistics, vital statistics, together with migration data, are used in population estimates. For further details, see Statistics Canada, "Differences between census counts and population estimates".
